The Lucky Trikes is a Chicago based chamber band that performs story-times with live improvised and classical music and original songs for young children.
The Lucky Bikes is a modern chamber ensemble featuring songs and compositions dirty enough for the bars yet classy enough for the concert halls.
Today’s guest is involved in both of these bands as well as lots of other unique and interesting musical things. His name is Kyle Gregory Price and I really enjoyed getting to know him, exploring his work and his mind a bit.

Jason bender is a martial arts guy and fitness trainer at my gym. I would see him all the time - working out with clients in the martial art studio and on social media. I always liked what saw; his energy and his spirit. Even though we had never met, I asked him to be a guest on Eager to Know.
I am glad we hung out and talked. I think Jason is awesome I am happy to share my conversation with him.

Spirit of Sound

I was super excited to meet with this episode’s guest as he has intimate involvement with a subject I don’t know much about, music. Paul Hamilton is a musician, composer, and teacher. I thought we were going to discuss the creative process of putting musical notes on paper and all about this foreign language of musical composition. As these things happen, our conversation did not go as planned and instead I got to know a lot about Paul and his relationship with sound. Sound is an interface for many connections in his world; I am excited to share my conversation artist Paul Hamilton as we discuss the spirit of sound.

Fresh Lens Chicago is a non-profit that teaches digital photography skills to Chicago youth. I spoke with its leaders, Shirley and Denise. While concepts like aperture, shutter speed and ISO are certainly covered in the program, I learned that other skills are really being taught. Skills such as teamwork, and persistence.
Shirley and Denise have unique backgrounds that lead them right into this experience of running Fresh Lens Chicago.

Creative Spirits

I recorded my conversation with artist Michael Noland at his spacious and bright studio in Woodstock IL. He is also an avid art collector, and I was able to tour his home which is full of, what he considers, excellence in art. Much of this collected art could be seen as folk art, outsider art, untrained art, or self-taught. It was a varied and interesting collection. As these things happen, I didn’t know Michael when I started our talk so I didn’t know what to expect.
I quickly realized I just needed to get out of the way and let his spirit just come through.

Making It Your Own
Tuesday Nov 26, 2019

Oscar Joya is a Chicago based artist. Born in Lilongwe Malawi, he was exposed to drawing a very, very early age. An eventual move to the United States stimulated and fueled his artistic activity. He went to an arts magnet high school, and studied art in college, focusing on the human form. For certain, he has learned to rules of painting and drawing.
Oscar’s story and his work are wonderful examples of learning the tools and using these to move things forward. His paintings are anchored in the foundations of portraiture, but he has extended this in a style that is unique and reflects his past, his experiences, and his values.
He has learned the rules and then made it his own.

Monday Nov 04, 2019
Life is a continual series of choices. Every day we are presented with options of what to do with our bodies, voices, and most importantly, our thoughts and beliefs. I always find it inspiring when someone’s choices transform a not-so-great life experience into something positive and helpful to our world. My conversation with artist Frederick Nitsch.
